RESULTS AND STATISTICS
Over a 5 year period of research, with teen strategizing and participating in recovery meetings, the following results occurred:
Timeframe: 2003-2008 school years
Participation: 268 teen members
110 teen members who participated in 6+ meetings
Improvement noted:
Academic: 40% showed a higher grade in one or more subjects
(the rest maintained a “C” average or better)
Attendance: 80% showed an increase in average daily attendance
Behavior referrals: 90% showed significant changes in behavior with most “referral issues”
completely disappearing
Student input:
- 100% of students, who regularly attended, expressed positive changes in their personal recovery.
- Periods of recovery were sporadic (ranging from 3 days to 5 months).
- Students (80%) shared their commitment to TeenAA with families.
- Students brought “friends in trouble” to meetings.
Currently:
- Over 250 adults have been trained to be facilitators in high schools, faith-based communities, and youth outreach organizations.
- Teen AA has been endorsed by two U.S. Congressmen:
Congressman John Shadegg from Arizona (R) Congressman Brian Baird from Washington (D)
- Teen AA has been given permission from A.A. Worldwide Services to use our written version of the 12 steps for Teen Addiction Anonymous.
